“Wallpaper” by Savanna Maue

My heart is like wallpaper, slowly
chipping, cracking, and fading
away.
Suffering water stains
from my many tears.

Once filled with bright
swirls and diamonds of vibrant
shades
of yellow and green,
now dulled with age and light, faded
beyond recognition.
Ignored and covered up with cheaper
papers,
easily replaced.

I have stood
strong.
Here in your life while
you have constantly
disappeared
in my time of need.

But my heart still beats.
Covered by layers of
discarded materials,
forgotten
but present, just waiting
to be uncovered yet again.

Someday my love will see
what potential lies
underneath.
Or he will demolish me completely.
