Two Poems by Eddie Jones

a day in the life

a single by American country music
artist Jean Shepard

styles his hair in a way that aligns with social expectations

is highly influenced by pop culture, evidenced by a walk that suggests he is in no hurry to get anywhere, and through the implementation of jargon built primarily from combinations of sensible words spliced onto other sensible words, making them non-sensible

is ‘a dear john letter’
or more recently ‘second fiddle (to an old guitar)’

since we’ve discussed this, there is less to talk about

you want to go, tubal ligation? because if you want to go, we can go

i have committed the sin
of latrinalia

that is: transcribing
a personal reflection
of mine onto a bathroom
or lavatory wall

the removal of an ovary
and its uterine tube
looks over at me,
judgmentally

what are you looking at,
the removal of an ovary
and its uterine tube

nothing, he says

that’s what i thought, i say

what’d you say, he says

you heard me, i say

no i don’t think i did, he says

i stare into his very soul
and he stares back,
also to my soul

we leave before things get
out of hand
